A literary analysis is an essay that analyzes a literary element of a story, poem or novel. In order to write this paper you have to be very familiar with the story you are analyzing. That means you need to read it two or three times.
First reading - read for the general idea of the story. What is the story about? What happens? Why do I like this story? What aspect of this story makes me like it?
Second reading - Read specifically with your literary element in mind. You are looking to see how the author used that element. For example, you are analyzing setting. Read paying particular attention to setting.
Third reading - This reading you look for quotes and evidence to support your argument you are going to make in your paper.
