I am excited that you have decided to take advantage of the Advanced Opportunities offered by INSPIRE. This is an exciting step towards your future. Because this is an AP class, there are certain requirements that must be met in order to be successful. Please read the following carefully. If you feel you will not be able to fulfill these requirements, contact your homeroom teacher and move to a more appropriate class. Expectations: AP classes are considered college level work. The expectations for student engagement and learning are higher than in honors or standard classes. You must maintain a grade of 70% (C-) or higher at the end of the semester. If you fail to achieve this proficiency level, you will be moved to a standard course of the content area the following semester. You are responsible for taking the initiative to contact your teacher if you have any questions or concerns about the content of the curriculum. AP courses expect a higher level of analysis, writing, critical thinking, and problem solving than honors or standard courses.
Participation:
The AP classes are approved by the College Board, which sets the requirements for the course and the curriculum. AP classes require active participation on the part of the student. Attendance at AP Live Lessons is mandatory. If you cannot attend Live Lesson then please request from your homeroom teacher to be placed in the honors or standard course for that subject.
AP Live Lesson Times will be determined after the first week of classes.
Depending on the AP course, you should plan an additional 1-3 hours of studying/reading time per day in order to stay current with your lessons. You must remain on track during the school year. That means you must complete the lessons on your planner the week they are due. Student progress will be evaluated during the first 6 weeks of the course. If you are failing to keep up with the lessons, you will be moved to the standard section of the course at the 6 week point. If at the end of the semester you have consistently lagged behind in completing your lessons, you will be moved to the standard section of the course for second semester.
Honor Code
It should go without saying that AP students do not violate the honor code. If there are repeated violations of the honor code (please see the INSPIRE School Handbook for the Honor Code) the student will be moved to the standard section of the course.
Please, if you have any questions, contact me. I am excited to see you in the AP program and look forward to working with you.
